Rudyard Kipling shared, "If you don't get what you want, it is a sign either that you did not seriously want it, or you tried to bargain over the price."

Most people who do not have want have attempted to make trade-offs with something of little or no value.

To reach the highest potential you have, the desire must be strong and you must be willing to trade something worth giving up to reach higher and higher in life. I am not talking about sacrifices of ideals and honor, rather reaching to have higher ideals, higher honer and higher integrity.

The widow woman gave "all she had". What about about you?

Taking the High Road

All to often in the Home Business Industry people are looking for a short cut!

Now don't get me wrong - if done correctly any business can grow quickly but taking the Low Road, looking for fast returns on something that is not long term defeats the purpose.

Bringing people into a program that is short term is not only unfair, it is unethical.
Been there done that... never again!

Always take the High Road!
Be guided by Character and Values!
Refuse to Play Games!
Live By Principles!
Have unconditional love and forgiveness!

Traits of Leader

Isaiah 33:14-16 Gives us the Traits of a Leader that can stand against any challenge.

A True Leader has:
Integrity - The True Leader does what he/she says.
There is consistency in what they say and how they live.
Justice - The True Leader rejects anything that is not gained honestly
Conviction - The True Leader has values that rise above accepting any kind of bribe.
Positive - The True Leader does not dwell on negative or destructive issues.
Pure - The True Leader disciplines his or her mind to remain clean and pure.
Secure - The True Leader is solid in identity, self and his or her true source of strength.

These may be tough to maintain but scripture tells us that this is the one who will dwell in the heights, whose refuge will be the mountain fortress. His bread will be supplied and water will not fail him.

What kind of Leader do you aspire to be?

Personally, I believe that each of us is given certain gifts, certain talents and that God has a plan for us. A plan for you and a plan for me. So the Key is to find that Gift, that talent. Once you do, you will find God’s plan for you in every area of your life!

The problem is most people want to plan on their own and not seek counsel.
Through Wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established, by knowledge the rooms Are filled with all precious and pleasant riches. Proverbs 24:3-4

If we plan for ourselves and do not bring God into the picture as our Counsel, we make plans that fail. We become discouraged and our minds tell us we ‘Cannot’.

When we plan with God and follow His plans we are successful and God tells us we CAN!

What is God’s vision for your life?
What gifts’ and talents has He given you?
How can you use them to make a difference in the lives of others and in the world?

When you discover God’s plan for you. When you discover your call, you will be filled with a Vision, the plan will fall into place, the people and resources needed will come to your side and you will become fully committed for you will no longer be “double-minded”.

Your life will change forever, for you will be changing lives forever and fulfilling God’s plan.

2011 is upon us... the first 31 days are gone. What is your plan. What is God’s plan for you?

Find the gifts and the talents that he has given you and put that plan into action so you can begin changing your life today!

Today I was reading in 1 Peter and ran across several passages that struck me as to how they might apply to our business.

Frankly I always see many applications in Scripture to our business and the best way to work it!

Here is the first one. I have offered several translations:

NIV

1 Peter 3:15 But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. BUT do it with gentleness and respect!

The Message

Don't give the opposition a second thought. Through thick and thin, keep your hearts at attention, in adoration before Christ, your Master. Be ready to speak up and tell anyone who asks why you're living the way you are, and always with the utmost courtesy

King James

But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

Contemporary English Version

So stop being afraid and don't worry about what people might do. Honor Christ and let him be the Lord of your life. Always be ready to give an answer when someone asks you about your hope. Give a kind and respectful answer and keep your conscience clear.

If we are sharing your Faith – how will you draw more people to you?

1. Running out into the streets and screaming at the top of your lungs - that you have the very best Faith in the world and everyone else – well if you don’t believe what you do… they are a flat out loser!

2. Meeting people where they are life, understanding their situation, their beliefs, their fears and misgivings and then developing a relationship to show them how loving your LORD is and how He can benefit them in their life!

Hmmmm - #1 or #2 – which will do the trick?

#1 would violate the Word – regardless of the translation! – There would be a total lack of - gentleness and respect - utmost courtesy - meekness and fear or kind and respectful.

So let’s apply this to your business.

1. Running out into the streets and screaming at the top of your lungs – My Widget is the very best – I have the best comp plan – the best upline – the company and if you don’t join my business or use my widgets the you are an outright loser!

2. Meeting people where they are life, understanding their situation, their beliefs, their fears and misgivings and then developing a relationship to show them how loving your business benefit them in their life!

Hmmmm… Again #1 or #2

So the Big Question is: How do you share the Hope in your life?

The Dark Side of Network Marketing – A Letter to a Downline Raider

Twenty years in the corporate world taught me this: To get ahead I had to step on others. The focus had to be me, to love money and use people. Half truths, empty promises and sometimes even outright lies made the “climb” to the top so much more expeditious.

When I entered the Network Marketing arena, I brought that philosophy along with me, and was assured my skills and beliefs would bring success in this business also.

As life began to pass by and the number of “real friends” I had could be counted on one hand, I came to the realization that perhaps this was the reason it was “lonely at the top”.

In my heart I believe that Network Marketing is a business based on working with others to guide them in achieving their goals. Jim Rohn calls it “adding value to the marketplace”. Help others get what they want and you get what you want and beyond. Servant Leadership is another way to express this model of business.

The challenge is that our incredible profession is filled with far too many people who believe the only way to success is by the “Love Money Use People” philosophy and you my friend are leading the way to perpetuating this falsehood.

When will you realize that “Loving People and Using Money” is a much better way? When will you realize that by taking a feather out of my hat and placing it in yours, is not a mark of honor and accomplishment, rather it is a Badge of Shame!

When will you realize that the tearing down of another does not elevate you higher? When will you realize that building a business on hype and fear of loss is like building your home on a foundation of sand? Do you not realize the responsibility you have to those who blindly follow you?

When will you realize that there are more than enough people in this world to create success for you and your family and realize that by “stealing” people from another is not necessary? When will you realize your actions leave another without income for home and health? That you are taking far more than a person, you may be taking the very money that keeps a roof over someone’s head or perhaps buys medicine to keep a child alive!

When will you realize that your actions feed the very negativity that shrouds our profession? When will you realize that your actions cast us into the same pit of darkness as the Enron’s of the world?

Is your heart truly so shallow? What is it that has blocked the light of the truth from your eyes? Are the words you have spoken in the past so empty? Were the promises and commitments only lies to further your own agenda? What is the beast within you that requires you to feed on others?

Do you not understand that you have the power within you to bring about positive change?

My lost friend, my heart is full of sorrow for you. My prayers go out for you. My faith gives me the courage to go on, to persevere, and maintain my belief that loving people and using money is the only way to live a truly fulfilled life.

Whatever life brings my way, abundance or lack thereof, my heart values of Honor, Integrity, God, Family and Service to others will guide me and lead me on the right path.

In his book "Leadership Promises for Everyday" -John Maxwell speaks of Charisma and asks the question - "Are People Drawn to You?"

John shares that Charisma is a character trait and can be developed.

A few key points and roadblocks to avoid:
1. Pride - No one wants to follow a leader who thinks he or she is better than everyone else.
2. Moodiness - When people never know what to expect - they stop expecting.
3. Insecurity - If you are uncomfortable with YOU -other will certainly be uncomfortable too.
4. Cynicism - No one will follow someone who sees a cloud around every silver lining.
5. Perfectionism - you can get respect with a desire for excellence and lose it for unrealistic expectations.

Charisma is not some mystical energy that floats around a person. It is a character trait that YOU can develop.

It all boils down to working on YOU and becoming the best you can be.
Get rid of the garbage that has filtered into your mind for many years and reprogram your mind with the belief that you are a Child of God and thus can move forward and use the gift He has given you to better the world.

Did someone say something about an Economic Downturn?

Duh... yeah - everyday it has been blasted in the media - even the leader of our country has been a doomsayer until this past week. Of course that was all a political move BUT the fact remains that most people in this country seem to be driven by fear!

I am driven by FAITH!

I personally have faith - faith that all will turn around - that all will be great and that this time is a time of tremendous opportunity.

My faith is strong and personally I believe that God will take care of me and my family... provided that I don't sit back and doing nothing!

Scripture says the birds of the air will be taken care of -BUT... here's the deal... THE BIRDS HAVE TO GO SCRATCH FOR THE SEED! The seed does not magically jump into their beaks.

So what are you doing in your life and in your business? Are you drawing back into a shell?

Are you letting the Evil One determine the road you are traveling on or are you focused on the Lord and the promises he brings?

Might things get tough? Might things challenge you? Sure - but if you hold on to your faith you will come out a stronger person, mentally and spiritually!

Focus on the negative and bring that upon yourself. Focus on the Prize and that is what you will see in your life!

This past Thursday we went skiing at Sugar Mountain in Banner Elk, NC just about 20 minutes from our home. As we were riding up the lift I began to think (my mind is always working).

When skiing there is a definite relationship between the Skier and the Skis. As a Skier if you don't understand the skis, how they work and the relationship between you and those two slick sticks - You are not going to have a very good time on the slopes. True or True.

In business it's the same. You must develop a relationship with your prospect. You must understand them and how they relate to you. If you respect the relationship then all is well. The minute you lose track of where you are in the relationship or abuse it... BAM - down you go!

The Perfect Prospect

Imagine being able to make the perfect presentation to the perfect prospect every time and never making a presentation to someone not interested in what you have!
How would that be?
Would that make your life easier?
Would that make your business more fun?

You bet it would. One of the biggest mistakes new people make in the Network/ Consumer Direct industry is that they assume everyone sees things just like they do!

Let me share a joke/story I heard some years back to make my point.

There once was a blind man who decided to visit Texas. When he arrived on the plane, he felt the seats and said, "Wow, these seats are big!" The person next to him answered, "Everything is big in Texas."

When he finally arrived in Texas, he decided to the local Pub. Upon arriving, he ordered a beer and got a mug placed between his hands. He exclaimed, "Wow these mugs are big!"

The bartender replied, "Everything is big in Texas." After a couple of beers and some conversation with the locals, the blind man asked the bartender where the bathroom was located.

The bartender replied, "Second door to the right." The blind man headed for the bathroom, but accidentally tripped on the uneven floor and skipped the second door. Instead, he entered the third door, which lead to a swimming pool and fell into the pool by accident.

Scared to death, the man started shouting, "Don't flush, don't flush!"

OK, no harm, no foul... this story just makes a good point. We all "see" life through the different experiences we have.

If only people really understood and took this to heart, the rate of success in this industry would increase ten fold and so would the retention!

So how do you put this knowledge into action? How do you find that perfect prospect and quit wasting your time talking to the wrong people?

Stop talking! Stop puking on people. Stop telling everyone, everything that you think your prospect wants to know and find out what the heck is actually important to them!

Novel idea right? So start asking questions. Ask lots and lots of questions. When you ask the right questions you will find out if the person you are talking to is even remotely interested in your product or business.

If they are interested, if they qualify, then you have a great prospect who has told you everything that is important to them, everything they are looking for and everything they want to know to get started with you. AND if they are not interested... then great... you don't have to waste your time with a presentation of any kind.

Start asking and back off the talking. God gave you two ears and one mouth, figure it out!

New Years Resolutions?

Just what is a NYR anyway?

Here is one definition:
A half-hearted commitment to stop some bad behavior or action; or to start some good behavior or action; either one in hope of achieving something better or more in life; generally made under intense peer pressure or from tradition dating back to a two-faced god known as Janus.

Janus was supposed to be the god who could see the past and the future and make good decisions about moving forward. Actually this is really where the phrase - two-faced liar came from and talking out of both side of one's mouth. (Janus had the ability to do that twice as much as anyone else.)

If statistically only one out of ten people actually keep their resolution is it a good idea to make one (knowing that you will probably fail at it, and then feel bad for the rest of the year, reverting back to the bad behavior or action in a ten-fold manner) or should you just go on with life as it is?

Frothing at the Mouth Sales People?

You drive onto the lot and before you can get out of your car someone bolts out of the showroom and says with a big smile on their face,
"So what will it take to get YOU in a new car today?"

You walk into a nice clothing store in the mall and immediately you spot them.
Dollar signs are rolling in their eyes as you hear the cry, "How can I help you?"

Everywhere you go someone is trying to "sell you" something. True or True?

We all love to shop. We all love to "buy" - Any questions or doubts?
If so just visit your local mall, Target, Wal-Mart, Kohl's or whatever happens to be in your area.
People will be walking out with "bags full" of stuff. We love to buy.

We just hate to think we are being sold something.

So what happens when you enter the store and the salesperson comes up to ask
if they can assist, help, or show you something? What do you say?
Come on, what is the standard response?

"No Thanks - I am just looking."
Of course you are looking. You are looking for something to buy!
You just don't want someone else deciding what that something is.
You don't want to go home and immediately have buyers remorse because a "salesperson" told you "This is just what you need!"
So for the most part - "Don't we dislike salespeople?"

So then here is the Million Dollar question.
What is it that happens to the average person after they join a Network Marketing company that turns them into some kind of crazed, hysterical, maniacal, foaming at the mouth, salesperson?

What happens to them? Is there some kind of hypnotic, subliminal message in the company literature, CD's or DVD?
Is there a "secret ingredient" in the product that brings about the Jekyll and Hyde transformation?
What exactly is it that causes the projectile "spewing of information" from this once sane person?

I have been studying a number of books on prosperity and I continue to find some real wisdom and understanding that is changing my life for the better. Let's see if you know any one who might suffer from these five (5) beliefs.

1. Success and Prosperity will corrupt me.
2. My prosperity means someone else has less.
3. No need to be concerned with the future - God takes care of it all - I am waiting on Him.
4. Money is Evil and so are Rich people.
5. I don't care about money - I just want to be a good person.

We will explore these more in depth.

God Desires More For You Than You Know

I love to start my day with a little "quiet time" with God. A hot cup of green tea, my Bible, a thought provoking book on the Biblical perspectives of life and I am good to go.

I prefer to spend this quiet time in our Sun Room. The comfortable sofa and soft light create a perfect space and keep the distractions that fill my office upstairs far from my view.

Today was different.

As I studied I was compelled to come upstairs and share some of the scripture and insights I was reading about. Well at least that is what "I thought" I was going to do.

As I sat at my desk and opened my laptop I saw an email entitled "What Does Love Have To Do With It?"and decided to open it.

Oh no... here I go off on a tangent, lost in email for the rest of the day! BUT God had something "special" in store for me.

The video above was a part of the email. As I watched it I wept.

The events of this past week are the solid foundation of our faith in God and Jesus Christ. This video sums it up for me.

Prosperity or Poverty

The issues of prosperity vs poverty permeate throughout society and find their way into our lives. But the real issue is not actually about money or lack of it.

The primary issue is what we think.

I shared in my last newsletter some of the messages that work to create our thought processes and beliefs. So many of our thoughts support a "poverty consciousness" in everything we do. Especially in our individual businesses.

Recently I conducted a training event and as I often do I asked, "If you could walk away from here with one key idea or insight that would move your business forward, what would that be?"

I generally know what the answers are going to be but one person asked a question I had not heard before. One that kind of set me back. BUT one that as I really think about it is probably on most everyone's mind that is in the Network Marketing business!

"What do I do to get people to leave the company they are in now and join mine?"

Have you heard that one before? Have you often thought about it yourself? Things that make you go Hmmmm.....

OK. So this is a new newsletter and already I am going to step on some toes but, let me say this: What I will share in this information is never going to be what you want to hear - but what will move you forward in your business and in life!

There is Never Enough To Go Around....

This is definitely a belief in the business world. In order to be really successful you must tear down someone else's product, comp plan, labeling, founders, upline, downline, and get them to join you in your business. True or True?

Trick question (the True or True? part) It is NOT true! It is however what most distributors believe. Why? Because all of our lives we have been taught about a Poverty Conscious Economy (Secular, Fear Based Economy).

Paul Zane Pilzer in his book, "God Wants You To Be Rich" shares that if we focus on a Cornucopian or Prosperity Conscious Economy (God's Economic System), then we lose the fear and realize there is more than enough for all of us to live lives of great abundance!

So the $1 Million Dollar question is, "Why would you want to people to quit what they are doing to do something different?"

Is it for your gain? Is it to make you feel good? To make you feel like you made the right decision in life with the company you chose? Is it for your EGO? (You know what that one means right? Edging God Out) or Are they looking to make a change?

Look there are already more than enough "quitters" in this world already. Let's teach people to finish what they started! Amen!

Now I am not so naive to think that everyone is going to stay with the the business they are in now. The reality is that over 50% of the people in any business will be gone, quit, or move to something else in 6 months anyway. Sad statistic but true. And You and I are to blame! (ouch that one hurts) More on that topic at another time as well as how to change that number.)

Yes we all want to find leaders that understand the business and will become "Star Fleet Commanders of the Universe" overnight skyrocketing our checks into the stratosphere and getting our smiling faces on the cover of our company Magazine. True? Yes, True. But the reality: That is not the foundation of this business.

Servant Leadership is the foundation to building a large business. Servant Leadership is finding people, just like God did all through the Bible, that may not be perfect, that may not have all the skills required to be the best right now... But they have a desire to do more and be more.

As a Servant Leader you take those people and work with them, guide them, teach them, inspire them, help them grow to become the leader that others will follow!

Become a Servant Leader and watch what happens to your business, your retention, your level of prosperity, your level of giving and doing for others. Become a Servant Leader adding Value to the lives of others and watch your life change!

What Message Are You Listening To?

What is God's Message...

Most of my life I heard a series of messages about money and prosperity that left me confused and wondering which way to go. I was kind if like the goldfish in the bowl - clueless!Maybe you heard similar messages like these:
We can't afford that
It's not in the budget
Let's cut back and save
Money doesn't grow on trees
Rich people are greedy
Money is the root of all evil
The rich get richer and the poor get poorer
There is never enough money
You can't have money and be close to God

These messages shaped my life and caused me to live a life less than God had in store for me. Now I understand how fictitious these messages are and knowing this truth has allowed me to begin to experience some dramatic changes in my life!

Gotta Know Everything

In my first years in the industry I was stifled by this false belief. I HAD TO KNOW EVERYTHING - about the Product, the Comp plan, the Founders of the company (the names of their dogs, cats, parakeets, kids, what kind of car they drove, where they went to church), the Ingredients in the product, the Double-Blind Placebo controlled Medical studies, the ink the labels were printed, what kind of material the labels were made from, where is the product made, do they wear clean lab coats there, what color are the lab coats? - do you get the point?)

I mean really What if someone asked a question I did not know? I would certainly look like a fool and have to run sheepishly away with my tail between my legs. Then I would be forced to quit the business and move across country where no one knew me. I would be disgraced among my peers and my family. STOP

Here is the real issue - The "fear" that holds us back in not getting started or in talking to someone has nothing to do with any of the above. It all has to do with our own belief system, our "bad" programming.

There is an inherent difference between successful rich people and unsuccessful poor people.

The Focus on Opportunity or the Focus on Obstacles. You can decide which is which! We are talking about choices made out of expectation of success or expectation of failure.

The fact is that the issue in the business in not about what you know or don't know. Yes people want to follow a leader. Yes people want to know that the person they are working with is going to be able to guide them along the journey... BUT

This is a EARN as you LEARN business. Use the tools, the websites, the CD's and your upline partners.

You can be paralyzed by fear and NEVER get anything going or you can jump in as T. Harv Eker says, "Ready, Fire. Aim" Go out and start, today, right now, make mistakes, learn from them and move forward.

Look it is kind of like driving at night. Your lights only project so far ahead of you, you can only "see" so far ahead BUT you keep driving anyway. You adjust as things come into view. The business is just like that.

No straight lines in nature! Constant swaying, moving, curving, adjusting and bending, that's what life is about. Start bending, swaying, adjusting and moving.

Change the programming in your head. Start with a good brainwashing. Be willing to take some calculated risks and learn your way to the top. You will become the person everyone wants to follow, learn from and be around!

The Choice is yours - You can start today or what the heck maybe you should wait until tomorrow?

Do Unto Others Before they Do unto you?

Today in the mountains we have 4" to 6" of snow on the ground and 20 deg weather. What a great day to have a Home Business!

I wanted to share a few excerpts of an article I wrote for an online magazine.

DO UNTO OTHERS BEFORE THEY DO UNTO YOU?

The cry of the business world goes out, 'Do unto others before they can do unto you!' Twenty plus years in the corporate world instilled in me that this was the best philosophy for achieving success. When I entered into Network Marketing my mentors (also corporate escapees), echoed the very same business beliefs and style. Slam people with lots of stuff, sling them against the wall, see what sticks and run fast to find the next one (or to get away from the ones who didn't stick and began to chase you). Some will, some won't, so what, next! Love money and use people (LMUP). What a great philosophy to live by right? Yes, if you want to be the President of the No Friends Left Club.

So after nearly three decades of LMUP as my credo, only moderate success to show for it, no long term residual and not many friends left, I came to the realization that this might be were the phrase, “It's lonely at the top” came from. I surmised that the people who did make it to the top probably had no friends left to share their success with, thus the inherent loneliness.

So just how do I apply Servant Leadership into my business?
Here are the key steps I offer to my leaders to follow:

1. Develop the why in your life and your business.
What is your Mission, Your Vision, Your purpose? (MVP)
2. Write these down so you are vividly clear on them.
(Use a pencil if you like as these will change as you grow)
3. Communicate with and find out who your three, four, or five key leaders are?
4. Have them develop their goals, their MVP.
5. Have them write down their goals.
6. Have them communicate their goals with you. Giving you a copy.
7. Put the goals in a drawer, an envelope, under a pillow, anywhere out of sight.
8. Take the goals of your leaders and post them in plain view. Stick them in your wallet, your purse, above your desk, on your bathroom mirror, etc.
9. Focus on your leaders, guide them, and assist them in reaching their goals.
10. When each of your leaders have reached their goals, guess what?
Your goals will be reached.
